Moldova ratified the European Convention on Human Rights in 1997. In 2009, 1322 applications were registered by the Court and 29 judgments were delivered in violation of at least one human right guarenteed by the European Convention on Human Rights.

The Commissioner paid official visits to Moldova in April 2009 and October 2000. As an independent institution, his mandate is to promote the awareness of and respect for human rights in Council of Europe member states.

Moldova şi Consiliul Europei
Context
In rezultatul disparitiei URSS la finele anului 1991, Moldova a aderat in ianuarie 1992 la Conferinta pentru Securitate si Cooperare in Europa, concomitent cu celelate State succesoare ale Uniunii Sovietice si membre ale noii Comunitati a Statelor Independente. Vointa sa de integrare europeana s-a confirmat un an mai tarziu, odata cu acordarea Parlamentului Moldovei a statutului de invitat special la Adunarea parlamentara si cu depunerea de catre guvern a candidaturii oficiale a tarii de aderare la Consiliul Europei. Integrarea in cooperarea parlamentara, apoi in cooperarea culturala (prin aderarea la Conventia culturala europeana) un an mai tarziu, insotesc etapele succesive ale procesului de tranzitie democratica: desfasurarea primelor alegeri libere la 27 februarie 1994 si adoptarea unei constitutii democratice la 29 iulie. Un an mai tarziu, la 13 iulie 1995, Consiliul Europei a acceptat aderarea Moldovei, in acelasi timp cu cea a Albaniei, astfel sporindu-si numarul de la 34 la 36 de membri.

Data aderării Moldova a devenit cel de-al 36-lea Stat Membru al Consiliului Europei la 13 iulie 1995.

Drepturile Omului Moldova a ratificat Convenţia europeană pentru Drepturile Omului la 12 septembrie 1997. - Judecătorul din partea Moldovei la Curtea europeană a Drepturilor Omului este Mihail POALELUNGI. - Cereri atribuite unui organ de decizie (*) în 2009 : 1322 - Hotărâri adoptate în 2009: 30 dintre care 29 încălcări (*) Nu include cererile care sunt la etapa prejudiciară ( dosare incomplete)
